About St Johann
St Johann is located in the heart of the Tirol area. It is an amazing town with a population of 8000 people, yet has more to offer than a lot of larger places. Because of the location of St Johann to the mountains and the rivers, and the surrounding area having over 100km of scenic footpaths, hiking and climbing trails it makes St Johann a great centre point for a range of exciting sports and leisure activities.
Throughout the area there are a number of festivals held throughout the summer and because of the locaility to all the villages St Johann is a great place to use as a base to join in with all the celebration.
The skyline of St Johann is dominated by the Kitzbuhel Horn on one side and the Wilder Kaiser on the other. The taller of the two is the Wilder Kaiser range which is 2344 metres at its peak, whereas the Kitzbuheler Horn, more commonly known as 'The Horn' is only 2000 metres.
The town square is a great place to spend time having a café latte or a local beer while enjoying the view of the beautiful baroque Church and the many other traditional Austrian buildings which make up the square.
Each year in August St Johann hosts the 'World Masters Bike Championship' for one week and there is more bike riders than pedestrians.

Staying in St. Johann

|
Accommodation
We have a variety of accommodation in St Johann but our two most popular are situated extremely close to the base of the Kitzbuhel Horn, and yet still just a 4-minute walk from the town centre. Both places are very welcoming and run by very friendly locals. They are not only a great location to the town centre but to almost everything in St Johann.
For 20 euro a night you can have a room with shared facilities, or for 25 euro per night you can have a room with private facilities and cable tv. All prices are based on two people sharing a twin room and include breakfast.
In Austria a twin room is a larger than average double bed, with separate mattresses and separate bedding. Single rooms are available, prices on request.

Eating Out
For traditional Tirolean food you cannot beat The Gasthof Mauth and The Baren. The Gasthof Mauth and The Baren do Weiner Schnitzel (crumbed pork), and Tiroler Grostel (sliced potatoes with herbs, bacon and diced pork served with a fried egg on top). The Baren also on request does Swine Haxon (pork knuckle), you will not leave hungry after having eaten a Swine Haxon.
The Huber Brau is a must when you are in St Johann. It is the second tallest building in town, does great food, brews several different types of beer, and has a fantastic view of the whole area.
There are also many Italian restaurants in town, Villa Masianco, La Rustica (Antonio’s), and Rialto, which are very well priced and an excellent standard as we are situated very close to Italy.

Nightlife
In St Johann we have a good variety of bars to suit whatever your mood may be. Rogi’s is an excellent bar to go for a drink while watching the sun disappear behind the Wilder Kaiser mountain range.
If you are more the type who likes to watch the world go by there is The Baren, which is situated in the main square, and has an upstairs balcony overlooking the main square. For later on in the evening there is Bunny’s Pub, which is an Australian Pub and is known to have a party atmosphere.

From Salzburg it is one road to get from the airport to St Johann. You exit the airport following the exit signs and at the traffic lights turn left onto the B178. Follow this road and you will eventually pick up St Johann in Tirol signs and follow them all the way until you reach St Johann. The distance is approx. 85kms from the city centre and approx. 80kms from the airport.
From Innsbruck you follow the A12 Inntal motorway (toll free), heading towards Worgl. Once you get closer to Worgl you take the 'Worgl Ost' exit and this is where you will pick up your first St Johann signs on the B178 federal road. The distance is approx. 90kms from the city centre and approx. 100kms from the airport.
From Munich it is a little more complicated. You can pick a map up from any of the car hire shops at Munich airport or in Munich City centre at the Tourist information or main train station. The distance is approx. 135kms from the city centre and approx. 160kms from the airport.
From Munich you follow the A12 Inntal motorway ( toll free), following signs for Innsbruck. You will then exit at the 'Kufstein Sud' where you will pick up your first signs for St Johann. Follow these signs on the B173 and B178 federal road signs until you reach St Johann.
Please note: to drive on the motorway in Austria you must make sure your vehicle has a permit (vinyette). You can buy these at petrol stations if you don not already have one.
